One of the best resources I’ve used to study and develop my intuitive and psychic abilities is Slade Roberson’s Automatic Intuition Program. It’s an excellent and comprehensive resource if you’re looking to develop your intuition and psychic abilities, particularly if you intend to acquire professional-level intuitive skills. These skills are useful not only for budding professional intuitives but also for those looking to integrate an intuitive component into a service such as coaching, counseling or healing work.

This is THE course that pushed me over the edge and got me started doing readings. I bought it back in December 2009 and still refer to it today. Its highly practical approach along with Slade’s encouraging, can-do attitude gave me the tools and the confidence I needed to get the ball rolling. Slade makes learning to do intuitive readings seem as easy as learning to bake a lasagna. Of course it takes time, effort and practice to develop your abilities, but he convinces you that you too can do it if you stick with it.

The Automatic Intuition Program will ease you into doing full-blown intuitive readings no matter what level you’re at. Absolute beginners who aren’t ready to wing an entire reading by pure intuition will appreciate that Slade covers the use of divination tools such as oracle cards, pendulums and astrology to establish a basic foundation of information to present in a reading. You then “fill in the gaps” and flesh out the information using any number of intuitive techniques that rely more on your raw intuition. Over time, as your intuitive abilities develop, you rely less on divination tools and use them only as a check to confirm the information you receive through raw intuition.

Slade doesn’t waste time covering theory, spiritual woo-woo or other platitudes. He cuts straight to the chase, by giving you practical tools that you can use to consistently and reliably conduct readings. He throws a lot of tools your way – there are at least seven major intuitive techniques covered in the course, of which you may only need two to perform a full reading.

It’s as though Slade sends you the whole hardware store so that you can choose the tools you like. The techniques vary in difficulty and level of raw intuitive ability required. Over time, as your skill develops, you’ll feel increasingly comfortable using advanced techniques that rely more on raw intuitive ability.

My favorite technique in the course is Automatic Writing, whereby you write or type out a number of your own or your client’s questions, set a timer, and answer the questions within the short time constraint allowed. Because you don’t have much time to think, Automatic Writing forces you to trust your intuition and instincts rather than your logical, analyzing mind.

A major emphasis of the course is teaching you to connect with your client’s spirit guides, angels and higher self. You’ll be lead through a variety of techniques to help you visualize and communicate with your client’s spirit guides. You’re eased into the process by opening up communication first with your client’s primary spirit guide. You’re taught how to determine the gender of spirit guide using your client’s astrological chart, which then makes it easier to visualize him/her in your mind’s eye, and this opens the door to more detailed and sophisticated communication. At first, it’ll feel like you’re imagining everything, but that’s because your intuition communicates with you through the same channels as your imagination. When you’re tuned-in and focused during a reading, you have to trust that your thoughts, inclinations and insights are no longer just your own, that what you’re seeing and hearing are guided by a higher source.

The Automatic Intuition Program prepares you to conduct both email and phone readings, and even provides sample material for constructing an email reading template so that you don’t have to retype a lot of the same information for each client.

The foundation of the course is learning to access the Akashic Records – a “cosmic database of information about all souls, in all dimensions, all directions of time and space”. The Akashic Records are the ultimate source of information you’re tapping into when you’re performing the techniques outlined in the course. The first CD of the course contains a 25-minute long meditation aimed at helping you meet your Akashic Records Guide, who will serve like a secretary to help you retrieve information from the Akashic Records. If this sounds intimidating, don’t worry – you can do the meditation as many times as you need, and your first phone consultation with Slade is dedicated to helping you with this step.

The best part of the course is the opportunity to consult one-on-one with Slade. You get three 1-hour consultations, and these are for the most part tailored to whatever your needs are at that time. My first appointment with Slade came at a time when I was overwhelmed by the number of readings I was trying to do – I had posted on Facebook that I was offering free readings for practice, and I was exhausted from the demand. Although the first consultation is assigned to discussing your Akashic Records attunement meditation, Slade quickly tuned into my situation and shifted the focus to encouraging me to lighten up my load and explain to those who had booked sessions that I’d need more time to complete their readings properly. Thanks to that discussion, I spaced out my schedule and probably avoided burning out that week. I found Slade very empathic, versatile and completely focused on my needs.

You’ll find many hidden gems buried deep in the course manual. Slade provides variations and alternative approaches with many of the techniques to help you find something that works for you. For example, in the section on predicting timeframes, you’ll find variations such as focusing on seeing a number, seeing a flash of a symbolic representation of a particular season, or visualizing the months of the year laid out like a game board, with the right date lighting up after asking your question. I’ve found that as I get more experienced and want to change up the way I do things, I can look to the course materials for more variety and ideas.

If there’s anything I think can be improved, it’s the organization and flow of the material. The course flows like one long narrative, and while it’s broken up into sections and headers, you really have to be patient in order to get through all the material, which can be quite dense at times. There are so many different tools and techniques presented that it can be almost overwhelming. I was instructed to listen to the Akashic Records meditation on CD 1 as the first step in the course, but it wasn’t clear when I should listen to the rest of the audio material.

In contrast to the book, the audio lectures contained more discussion and personal stories and the entire fourth disc is devoted to dealing with skeptics, psychic junkies, ethics and the business aspects of the psychic profession. I particularly enjoyed Slade’s treatment of ethics, especially when he discusses that it’s ok to refer clients to professionals such as psychotherapists, and what signs to look out for when you have a client who may need more help than you can provide.

I found it easier to listen to the audio first, before tackling the written manual, which requires more discipline to work through. It took me several months to get through all the material, in part because I felt ready to do readings after I’d learned the techniques of Automatic Writing and oracle card spreads, and came back to the material later when I wanted to learn more varied and advanced techniques.

Highly rational or logical thinking types might get frustrated by the fact that Slade doesn’t provide you a series concrete of 1,2,3 steps, but rather throws a whole bunch of information and techniques your way, letting you pick and choose what you like. It is, after all, a course on intuition – why not let your intuition guide you to the most important material for you?

You graduate from the course when you’ve completed 10 practice readings and submit a short, informal essay about your experience. I liked this requirement because it encouraged me to put myself out there and do practice readings. Within two weeks of starting the course, I had nearly 30 practice readings under my belt. Needless to say, I felt a lot more confident about my abilities and learned a lot more about the profession by doing readings than I could by reading a book.

Weaknesses

• Amount of material can be overwhelming – pick and choose what you like, and come back to the rest later
• Some important reference material is scattered throughout the book – a quick-reference chart section would be helpful

Final Thoughts

The Automatic Intuition Program might seem like a steep investment, but it’s a comprehensive package with enough material to get you from a square one newbie to a practicing professional intuitive. It’s an excellent resource if you’re looking to develop your intuition and perform readings professionally, while being able to study from home at your own pace. When you’re finished the course, not only will you be certified as an Automatic Intuitive Response Practitioner, you’ll also be listed in the Automatic Intuition Practitioner’s directory.
